Forever Beautiful: The Resident’s Perspective
Filmed on-location in a long-term care facility, residents are interviewed in both the hair salon and activities room. As they speak with the hair stylist, it is quickly evident the pride in their personal appearance has not diminished with the aging process and remains of vital importance to them.
Residents make an impassioned plea to be kept clean and looking good, properly dressed with choices respected. This includes hair, nails, makeup, clean clothes, and bathing. No longer able to do these things on their own, residents are dependent on nursing assistants who provide their ADL to appreciate the importance of looking good. As one resident says, “ If we look good, we feel better.”
This DVD will enable staff: to develop an understanding for the importance of quality and personalized ADL care; and, to develop respect for the individuality and pride of residents, responding not only to their needs but also to their desire to remain, forever beautiful.
Topics: Activities of daily living, hygene, dignity
Audience: Allied health training programs, assisted-living / nursing home staff, home health aides.
